If you're sick or injured and can't work, contact your agency as soon as possible so they can find another caregiver and notify the client. The sooner you tell your agency, the more time they have to arrange coverage. If you realize early in the morning that you're too ill to work, message or call immediately. Don't wait until close to your shift time. Open the Messages tab in the Hailo app and send a message to your agency: 'I'm unable to work my shift today at [time] due to illness.' You can also call your agency directly if you have their phone number. A phone call may be faster for urgent situations. Your agency will remove you from the assignment and mark the shift as open coverage. They'll reach out to other caregivers to find someone to cover the visit. The client will be notified of any changes. When you call out, the shift is no longer assigned to you, so you won't be paid for it. Whether your agency requires a doctor's note or has a call-out policy depends on your employment agreement—check with them for details. If you call out frequently, your agency may review your employment status or scheduling. Genuine illness is understandable, but a pattern of last-minute absences can affect your reputation and future shift assignments. If you have a chronic health issue, talk to your agency about how to manage scheduling.
