Open shifts give caregivers a chance to claim work they want, while your agency retains final approval. Unlike direct assignment, caregivers express interest first, and you review and confirm each claim. When you create a shift and choose 'open for coverage' instead of assigning a specific caregiver, the shift publishes to the Open Shifts board visible to all caregivers in your agency. The shift shows the date, time, client name, location, care type, and pay rate. Open shifts remain on the board until claimed, cancelled, or a deadline passes. You can set how long the shift stays open and whether to auto-assign if no one claims it by a certain time. Caregivers browse available open shifts and tap 'Claim shift' to express interest. Claiming does not automatically assign the work — it notifies your agency that the caregiver wants the shift and triggers a review step. Multiple caregivers can claim the same shift. Your agency sees all interested caregivers and can review their profiles, availability, skills, and ratings before deciding who gets the assignment. When caregivers claim a shift, it moves to your Open Coverage queue. Review each claim and choose which caregiver to approve. Verify their credentials, check for conflicts, and confirm they meet the client's needs. You can approve one caregiver and decline others, or reject all claims and assign the shift manually instead.
