Overtime changes how much you pay caregivers when they exceed certain thresholds. Hailo supports multiple rules and lets you set agency defaults and caregiver exceptions. Federal FLSA (Standard Federal) pays overtime after 40 hours in a week at 1.5 times the regular rate. California Standard pays overtime after 8 hours in a day OR 40 hours in a week (whichever comes first). California Personal Attendant is 9 hours per day or 45 hours per week. Daily overtime pays time-and-a-half for any hour over 8 in a single shift. No overtime means the regular rate applies regardless of hours. Your state, payer programs, and worker classification determine which rule your agency must follow. Confirm the correct rule with your payroll advisor or compliance team before setting it in Hailo. Set an agency-wide overtime rule in Settings > Payroll. This applies to all new caregivers automatically. When a caregiver needs a different rule—such as exemption from overtime, or a specific threshold—open their profile and override the default with a custom rule. The per-caregiver rule wins. If a caregiver has an explicit overtime setting, Hailo uses that. If not, it inherits the agency default. Changing a rule does not recalculate historical payroll; the new rule applies to future periods. Hours worked, visit duration, hourly rate, and the overtime rule all determine overtime pay.
